Prime Minister James Marape has thanked public servants and church workers working in rural areas for serving the people.
Marape thanked church workers in Simbai who serve the Middle Ramu district during the ground-breaking ceremony for Simbai High School projects last Wednesday.
“Church workers who work as pastors, laymen, teachers – thank you very much to the churches (for serving) our country,” he said.
“You know some of them are paid very little or do not get paid at all but they still serve our people out of love for God and the people.
“Thank you very much to churches (who) have worked tirelessly.
“The Government recognises the work you have done for our people.”
He thanked public servants in Simbai for serving the people of Simbai and Middle Ramu.
He stressed that it was important to understand that 80 percent of the population lived in rural areas.
“I and some ministers were not born into privilege in Moresby.
“Some of us were born in rural areas and went to school in rural areas.”
He said having been raised in rural PNG, he understood the people’s needs. He urged the people to use their land for agriculture.
Marape said the Government had already put into place facilities to subsidise freight to transport fresh produce.
He challenged the people to make use of the facilities and get involved in agriculture.
