MORE Papua New Guineans will have the opportunity to study and find employment in the United States (US), says Prime Minister Marape.
Marape said just like Papua New Guineans going to Australia through a special visa to work, they will create the same connection for the US and Papua New Guinea.
“As your Government, I am making this connectivity so the citizens’ interests flourish,” Marape said.
Marape said he visited the US to partake in the second US-Pacific Islands Forum Summit in Washington yesterday and would be back this week.
“The US is a strong and important partner to PNG, and we have stepped up with our partner in relation to commerce, trade and especially in manufacturing,” he said.
“We have this meeting to make sure that business houses benefit and the citizens benefit from it.”
Marape said two big US companies (ExxonMobil and Newmont Corporation) are in PNG but “our greater interest is not to work in mining and petroleum space, but to go into technology, manufacturing of our marine resources and to look at agriculture potentials in the country”.
Marape said Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso is out of the country, but State Enterprises William Duma Minister will be acting prime minister during his absence.
