PMIZ funding checks needed

Letters

THE Madang governor needs a factual briefing on the Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) project in Madang and should issue a cessation notice to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry so that funds earmarked for this scheme are not misused or abused.
The funds are being used for useless trips and other things that they were not intended for and this state of affairs prompted the Prime Minister to raise the matter in parliament recently.
Ministers and officials are believed to be still travelling to Madang to cover their tracks.
Questions are being asked about the use of the funds to pay for work like fencing, clearing and cleaning, and the gate project. At least two foreign companies have been mentioned and a sum of K10 million is being bandied about.
It is time the landowners stand up and chase everyone out until a proper project implementation structure and loan financing are put in place by people who know what they are doing.
