PM’s formal job recovery claim myth, says Pruaitch

THE Marape Government’s claim that there has been some recovery in the formal sector employment this year is a “myth”, says Aitape-Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch.
He said data quoted from Bank of Papua New Guinea were the most erroneous ever collected by the Central Bank.
“The results were based on a 25 per cent response rate from employer groups rather than the usual 65 to 90 per cent response because companies that had shut their operations did not respond to these surveys,” he said
“It was easy for an ill-informed and unprepared government to force companies to pull back from projects that had taken many years of planning and getting them on track again could take considerable time.”
Pruaitch said investments in the resource sector had taken a significant hit and would worsen because of policies driven by Petroleum Minister Kerenga Kua.
“Under the proposed changes, new mining and petroleum exploration leases will be handled directly by Kumul Minerals and Kumul Petroleum, which have no experience in exploration which is normally undertaken by the private sector.”

  • Patrick Pruaitch still appears to been waving his tail to his colonial masters and believing in their ideology rather then looking at where PNG is today and why we are like this today. Should we be start looking at doing things ourselves and taking ownership of our own resources and destiny by now? The member does not seemed to have confidence and faith in our own peoples intelligences and capabilities and yet he wants to be a PM of this very country…funny Patrick. Its time you wake up!!!

  • Patrick Pruaitch will never become a PM. The furthest he could go is DPM, maybe.
His in politics for over 2 decades and never achieved anything, what a shame!

  • Papua New Guineans have excelled in all works of life. We have believed in ourselves to do what the White man does. We have held our heads high in the midst of too much knowledge, expertise and standing. We suffer imposter syndrome but hold our heads high to achieve anythings in life and in foreign countries. PP must never belittling the nation and revert to Masta em Orait mentality.

If our objective is to gain more from short suffering then we have land and always will live off our land. Short term pain for long term gain. Our resources will remain and will not be plundered.
