MORE than 100 canoes are expected to take part in the Peter O’Neill Cup Canoe Race at Pelegai Village, Aroma Coast, tomorrow.
Abau MP Sir Puka Temu was pleased with the initiative shown by the  Keleone-Aroma Development Group in hosting the one-day event.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is expected to launch the race. Sir Puka thanked O’Neill for his support of K50,000, while the Public Service Minister topped it up with another K50,000 to make it  the most lucrative canoe race with K100,000 in prize money.
Sir Puka said he was happy to see the Prime Minister take a keen interest in the traditional passtime of canoe racing.
There are 50 different prizes given out starting with K10,000 for first place in different categories.
The clarification of prizes will be announced on the racing day which starts with registration this afternoon for tomorrow’s canoe race.
