THE Port Moresby Netball Association (PMSA) has deferred all its activities, including its sevens tournament currently underway, in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I wish to announce that following consultation with the PMSA executives and in accordance with directions of the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation to shut down sporting facilities in the country for four weeks, PMSA will  suspend all it’s football activities immediately as a response to the impact of the coronavirus,” PMSA president Joseph Ealedona said in a statement.
“While it is regrettable that the decision has been made, it is in the best interest of all those concerned especially players, clubs, officials and our Bisini family.
“The finals of the sevens tournament and our pre-season have now suspended to a later date.
“PMSA will continue dialogue with the PNGSF and relevant stakeholders, including the PNG Football Association (PNGFA), before making an announcement on the resumption of our activities.”
Ealedona said PNGFA had released to all member associations a note from Fifa urging them to take appropriate actions to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus.
“I thank all the teams, corporate friends and government agencies that took time to participate in our tournament,” he said.
“The tournament was shaping up for an exciting finish this weekend. But our safety and health is paramount.”
