THE Port Moresby Soccer Association will resume the remainder of its 2021 season — that was suspended indefinitely earlier this month — on Feb 26, says general secretary George Bukoya.
He said the association’s executive committee had met and approved the dates for the 2022 calendar which included the completion of the 2021 season.
“The finals for the 2021 season are scheduled for the weekend of March 26, 2022,” Bukoya said in a statement.
“The 2022 pre-season will tentatively be held from April 2 to the weekend of May 1.
“The Charity Cup is scheduled for April 15-18.
“The tentative dates for the 2022 season are from May 7 to Oct 2.”
Bukoya said clubs were advised to prepare their players and pay their registration fees.
“Subscription fees for the 2022 season will be the same as of this year — K2,100 per club plus a player registration fee of K2,” he said.
“Both fees are due on March 26 and must be paid to the association’s bank account.
“The details of the 2022 calendar will be forwarded to all clubs once the secretariat has completed them and obtained endorsement from the executive committee.
“The committee will call a club delegates meeting two weeks prior to Feb 26 to further discuss the season.
“It had been a difficult year despite our attempts to ensure the competition progressed, however, the Coronavirus (Covid-19) measures had halted our competition.
“Do note that the dates for 2022 are all tentative, given the fluid situation.
“But the executives will continue to closely liaise with the National Control Centre and Papua New Guinea Football Association for the effective management of our protocols to avoid disruptions.
“On behalf of the association, I thank you all for your understanding and cooperation, and wish you a safe and prosperous New Year.”
