WORLD Boxing Council referee Brad Vocale has rated Papua New Guinea’s boxers as good as any he has seen.
The Queensland-based Vocale said he was aiming to have PNG’s best fighters take on some of the region’s best.
“This is my plan, to bring many international fighters to PNG or get the local pros overseas,” the 65-year-old said.
“But we need to organise and manage the systems well to bring in overseas fighters.”
Vocale was impressed with all the fights on the PNG Professional Boxing Gymnasium show last Saturday.
He had high praise for PNG’s John Korake and Pakistani cruiserweight Ezatullah Kakar.
Vocale said Korake was a genuine contender and had the experience to be a regional champion.
He said Kakar a rugged, tough fighter who had pushed Korake hard before being knocked out in the 9th round.
Vocale also spoke highly of former PNG amateur champion Henry Umings who stopped Tony Waisa in his debut.
