PNG-China enjoying close relations: PM

PRIME Minister James Marape says Papua New Guinea has had an association with the people of China since the 1800s and continues to enjoy friendly relations with China.
He made the comments while wishing the people and the government of the People’s Republic of China the very best wishes for the Chinese new year.
“In this year of the tiger, we wish all Chinese people everywhere a happy and prosperous new year 2022 as you join together in celebrating your New Year.”
Marapa said China had one fifth of the world’s population, currently at more than 1.4 billion people.
“Many Papua New Guineans of Chinese descent who have settled in PNG over the years before and after our Independence have contributed to the growth and development of the country, while PNG continues to formally enjoy a cordial bilateral relationship with China, in trade and investment as we foster our ‘friend to all; enemy to none’ attitude,” he said.
