PNG conducive for business: Manager

Business

Papua New Guinea is truly a land of many opportunities and is one of the conducive countries in the world to do business in, says hardware shop manager Andy Ren.
He said this on Sunday at the company’s first-ever combined staff Christmas function at its 6-Mile premises.
Ren said the function was hosted for staff for contributing to the growth of the company since 2013.
All employees received gift packs, selected employee prizes and food.
A Chinese national from Nanjing City in Jiangsu, Ren is the manager of three hardware shops in Port Moresby that supply quality products to companies, Government agencies and individuals.
They are Ideal Hardware at Erima (established in 2013), Badili Hardware (2015) and 6-Mile Hardware (2017).
He is also the owner of NiuLink (PNG Ltd), a company that supplies CCTV cameras, electric fans, solar-powered durable lamp torches and mobile phones.
“To be successful in business, it is all about caring for your employees and meeting their needs so that in return they put their best effort, time and expertise to expand it,” Ren told The National.
“Without productive employees, one will not become a successful businessman or woman.”
He has about 300 employees now, both nationals and expatriates, compared to just 20 in 2013.
This clearly shows the growth in Ren’s business.
He is already eyeing expanding to other centres outside of Port Moresby with Lae a the top of the list in the new year.
“I have many customers in Port Moresby,” Ren said.
“Although my products sell for high prices, they are of quality and durable.
“The demand for my products, of which 60 per cent comes from China and Australia and 40 per cent locally supplied, is increasing every year.
“I am definitely considering taking the business to other parts of PNG.
“I am also consulting with institutions in Port Moresby to sign agreements with me to absorb their trained human resources in the business domain.
“I have started with International Training Institute (ITI) this year.”
