PNG embassy in Israel closed

THE recently opened Papua New Guinea embassy in Jerusalem has been temporarily closed, as of Oct 17, due to the situation in Israel, says Foreign Affairs Department secretary Elias Wohengu.
“The two officers who were assigned to set up the embassy following it’s opening in September departed Israel on Oct 17 in view of the security concerns there,” he said. Wohengu said 18 PNG citizens also departed at that time with the support of the Australian government as part of their evacuation exercise extended to nationals of other countries.
“The department will continue to monitor the situation and re-open the Embassy in Israel when deemed conducive to do so,” he said.
