PNG Fashion Haus launches website to sell products locally, abroad

PEOPLE from overseas as well as around the country can now buy Papua New Guinea fashion products through the PNG Fashion Haus website.
The website was launched during the PNG Fashion and Design Week (PFDW) first Fashion Friday, a lead up to the country’s first ever virtual runway on July 21. Last Friday, the Kabala collection from New Ireland was also launched and Anna Amos from AA Tribal showcased some of her latest designs.
PFDW founder Janet Sios said the Covid-19 had affected the traditional ways of doing business, but it had challenged them to look for new and efficient ways of doing things and ways of getting the products out there.
“We are looking at innovative ways of doing business, hence, we are going online,” she said.
“All the products and information about them and the designers, including the models, will be on the website.” Sios said 14 designers from seven provinces would showcase their designs using more than 100 models and this would be filmed in the virtual runway under the theme “Strongim Kastom Wokabaut” (Strengthening traditional culture).
“We want to emphasise on the importance of our cultures that people are forgetting in our villages,” she said.
“We want designers to challenge themselves to design and write stories about how they do things in their societies – during marriage, initiation, birth and all those events of cultural significance.”
