PNG Karate-Do name squad for challenge

THE PNG Karate-Do Federation named a development squad during its 23rd national championships held in Port Moresby over the weekend.
Queensland Karate Federation president Sensei Trevor Roberts officiated at the tournament.
The referees who went through the World Karate Federation referees training during the seminar had their practical during the tournament.
The squad is a development squad and opportunities are still available for talents that can be identified during the 2012 PNG Games. 
Federation president Carl Mari confirmed that a Pacific Games target squad would be confirmed next year. Rickinson Mekere was selected to represent PNG in the 21st World Karate Championship in Paris, France, in November.
Mari thanked the Australian High Commission, PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee through the Grassroots 2 Gold funding and PNG Power for financial help; and Trukai, Ox & Palm, Paradise Foods and Digicel for their help in staging of the karate seminar and the national championships.
