A PRO-Am (professional-amateur) golf tournament is a chance for golfers of all standards to play in a competition with a professional player.

The Sharp Pro-Am is played at the Port Moresby Golf Club on the preceding day of the South Pacific Export Papua New Guinea Open and Wednesday May 2 has been confirmed as the date for the Sharp Pro-Am, again sponsored by Brian Bell.

Some pro-am competitions are a stroke event where the professionals still plays against all other professionals playing in the following day’s major tournament with the amateurs playing their own competition against each other.

In PNG we have a more relaxed day which allows the professional to learn about the Port Moresby Golf club course before the start of the SP Export PNG Open and to meet members and sponsors of the club.

The Sharp Pro-Am is a four-man Ambrose event where each team tees off on a shotgun (at the same time) start.

They then choose the best ball and all players then hit the groups second shot from that position.

This continues using the best shot until the golf ball is "holed out".

Special Ambrose handicaps are used to calculate the team handicap for the day’s competition.

Major corporate partners and sponsors are offered a number of places in the Sharp Pro-Am dependant on the level of sponsorship taken up and the Port Moresby Golf Club extends an invitation to members, sponsors and sponsors guests to compete on the day.

You will enjoy an extremely well presented and challenging course and be involved in the pre and post Pro-Am festivities including the prize giving.

Each group includes one or two professionals.

A sponsor’s night will be held at the Port Moresby Golf Club on March 7 to attract the support from ongoing and new partners and to present sponsorship opportunities.
