THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Union (PNGRU) is currently rolling out a national training programme for coaches and match officials around the country, chief executive Sailosi Druma says.
Druma said the team would be travelling to Goroka, Eastern Highlands next month to deliver the training, following their recent training in Northern last week.
Druma told The National that the training and education programme for coaches and match officials would help build the capacity of their member unions.
“The main objective is to upskill coaches and match officials and strength and conditioning coaches,” he said.
“So far we have delivered to four unions this month.
We started off in Madang from March 6-7, in Port Moresby March 14-15, in Lae March 16-17 and the last week in Popondeta from March 20-21.
“Our next tour is planned for Goroka on April 12-14 and then to Daru on April 16-18.
“Our super week will commence on April 11-18 where we will deliver level two coaching courses.
“These courses will be co-delivered by our trainers and educators from Oceania Rugby.”
PNGRU referee Derrick Akes said such training would help them know more about the game as it covered insights on how to develop good coaches and referees.
“This programme is important to us as referees,” he said.
“It helps us upskill our knowledge as referees and also coaches to meet the world standard.”
