THE Papua New Guinea Squash and Rackets Federation is yet to name its representative for the July 28-Aug 8 Commonwealth Games which will be held in Birmingham, England.
A three-day national selection trial was held last week for four players – Feanor Siaguru, Christopher Whitchurch, Joshua Porter and Madako Suari Jr.
Head coach Marc Forster said they were still in the process of submitting the names of the selected players to the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee’s justification committee.
The trials was held at the Port Moresby Racquets Club.
Porter pulled a hamstring injury in his first match and did not complete the trial which ended with Siaguru beating Suari 3-1 on Sunday.
Forster said the trial focused on the development of young players wanting to experience the Games.
But among the four players, Suari is the most experienced player.
“Our selection criteria are mostly based on development for the Commonwealth Games,” Forster said.
“Seemingly, medals are so hard to come by.
“So even when we’re talking development and want young players to go gain experience, Suari is still at the top of his game and in the mix now.
“So if he keeps beating them, then he will go to the Games.”
Forster said they would set up a programme for the four players to continue pursuing their passion for the game.
“We want them to reach the top of their game, so they’ll be on the same programme,” he said.
