PNG stamp to feature in London TV drama

A REQUEST by a London-based film producer to use Post PNG stamps in a television drama will boost the postal business, Philatelic manager Banian Masiboda says.
Last week the Philatelic Bureau of Post PNG Ltd received a request from Left Bank Pictures to use postage stamps of the mid-1950s in their Crown Series 2 Television drama series.
The drama series dramatises actual national and international events between 1956 and 1963, and revolves around the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Masiboda said the Post PNG Philatelic bureau was a small postal administration, which once enjoyed the height of success in the mail-order business.
He said at the time when the postal business was being affected by the advance in technology, such a request was a timely boost.
He said the Post PNG Philatelic Bureau continued to create waves domestically and internationally.
He said in 2011, the team produced the world’s largest First Day Cover.
Masiboda said the request by the London film producer was a big plus for Papua New Guinea because out of all the Commonwealth countries visited, it was chosen to have the letter posted from.  “One thing for sure, the value of the stamps feature will dramatically increase on the open market,” he said.
“And it would also help boost the tourism industry when people wanted to visit the country where these stamps originated.”
He said there were three types of the 1952 stamps used – the Papuan head-dress, native policeman and the Kiriwina chief house.
