PNG Water Ltd has officially handed over the Mt Eriama water treatment plant facility in Port Moresby to Eda Ranu through a 22-year concessionaire service agreement.
“To take ownership of the facility will be a great challenge for the board and management of Eda Ranu,” Eda Ranu vice-board chairman Nelson Tengi said during the handover ceremony on Thursday.
PNG Water Ltd handed over the sewage and water facilities, built under the build, operate, and transfer (BOT) agreement to Eda Ranu under a major concessionaire service agreement.
“In the board, we always talk about when we will take over and today is a breakthrough for Eda Ranu,” Tengi said.
“I am also grateful to see the loyalty of the workforce and the chairman of the BOT arrangement for the 22 years that kept Port Moresby’s way on water.
“We need to work very hard to see that water into Port Moresby must be running.”
PNG Water concessionaire agreement director Robert Cheah said: “I am glad and satisfied that we have done something for Port Moresby.”
Cheah said many people doubted the BOT agreement in its initial stage.
“Port Moresby now enjoys clean and safe water 24/7,” Cheah said.
Kumul Holdings executive manager Parkop Kurua said Eda Ranu would go on the record to deliver on the successful Public Private Partnership arrangement.
