THE highly infectious Covid-19 Delta variant has yet to be detected in Papua New Guinea, but everyone must still work together to minimise the risk of its spread, Chinese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea Zeng Fanhua says.
“The Covid-19 keeps on rebounding and spreading and the Delta variant is posing new challenges and risks,” he said. “Therefore, staying united to fight the pandemic is still the pressing priority for the world.
“Vaccination is an important tool to control and defeat the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We must always adopt a scientific, objective and impartial attitude in the fight against the Covid-19.”
Zeng said China was committed to supporting PNG fight against the pandemic and jointly promote economic and society development for the benefit of both countries.
National Pandemic Response deputy controller Dr Daoni Esorom said countries in the region, including Indonesia which shared land border with PNG, were affected by the Delta variant was a concern.
“Samples were sent to Australia for the detection of Delta, but more testing needs to be done to ensure an accurate assessment of the status of the Covid-19 and Delta,” he said.
Controller David Manning urged people with the Covid-19 signs and symptoms to go for testing and for all to get vaccinated.
