PNGDF, Fijian soldiers helping with to build bridge

Main Stories

SOLDIERS from Australia, PNG and Fiji are building a bridge in the Buchan Caves Reserve in Victoria, Australia, to replace those destroyed by fire last month.
Once completed, it will allow Parks Victoria to re-open the caves to the public.
“When you think of teamwork, there is no better example than this task,” a statement from the Australian Third Brigade said.
Both PNG and Fiji sent in troops mainly from their engineering battalions to assist their Australian counterparts in clearing roads and rebuilding bridges.
Recent heavy rain in the affected areas had helped the work of firefighters but there are a lot of repairs to be carried out.
Meanwhile, OK Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) workers and members of nearby communities raised K140,000 to support those affected by the Australian bushfires.
The company said Australia was one of PNG’s closest neighbours and had provided relief assistance to the country during natural disasters.
