HAVING technical meetings prior to the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) is vital, says Papua New Guinea Football Association referees’ director Job Minan.
In a meeting prior to the start of the New Guinea Islands Conference, Minan told representatives of all the NGI franchises the importance of maintaining the technicalities in order to have games run smoothly.
The key agendas stressed in the meeting were uniforms to prevent colour clash, and start lists or master lists to confirm the names and numbers of all the players.
“When you use a certain number on your jersey, then it becomes your permanent number that you will use all throughout your career,” Minan said.
“When you go to the OFC Champions League you will use this number.
“These are Fifa and OFC requirements.”
Minan also discussed the importance of water breaks, as it was a Fifa requirement.
“We can say that water breaks kill the momentum of the game but actually the lives of the players are more important.”
Before the conference kicked off last weekend, Minan ran workshops with locals to help train them to become NSL referees in the future.
