THE Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition hosted a workshop for coaches and referees on issues surrounding player and official conduct, ahead of the crossover rounds this weekend in Lae and Port Moresby.
The refresher held on Friday, brought together coaches from the 12 franchises and Digicel ExxonMobil Cup referees to address certain actions of players, coaches and including match officials.
Competition manager Paul Joseph said three clubs in Lae Snax Tigers, Goroka Lahanis and Mendi Muruks were fined for bridging the competition guidelines in round eight for bringing the game into disrepute.
Joseph said they needed to highlight this issues in order to maintain the competition standards.
“We needed to take that action as well to show that there is always a reaction to every action that we make, and it has to be done to ensure our competition maintains its integrity and have the confidence going into the finals, the last remaining rounds of matches,” he said.
“Obviously, for those persons that were fined and suspended, again, upholding the competition rules, our judiciary court procedure, all those recommendations were again made by the NRLC to the board, and we’re looking forward to ensuring that we have a trouble-free competition in the next three weeks and then the four weeks of finals.
“We needed to reiterate that to our match officials and our coaches of the roles they play to ensure they take lead for the challenges that we face.”
