PNGOC set date to meet federations

THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) is scheduled to meet national federations whose sport is scheduled for international events next year, 2022 and 2023, from Sept 28 to Oct 4.
Prior to the meeting, the federations will be required to submit all requirements by Sept 18.
The requirements of PNGOC’s justification committee have been shared with the federations.
The justification committee assesses and confirms or rejects nominations received from the federations for athletes, managers and coaches to represent Team PNG at the Olympic, Commonwealth, Pacific, Pacific Mini, Youth Olympic and Commonwealth Youth games and other meets that fall under PNGOC’s mandate.
The meeting will see the federations justify their sport, athletes and officials for the Tokyo Olympic Games and Pacific Mini Games scheduled to take place next year.
Sports for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and Chandigarh, India, in 2022 will be required to justify only themselves and officials at this stage.
Similarly, sports for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands and Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago will only be required to justify themselves at this stage.
This process is to ensure the selections to these Games are in line with PNGOC’s performance standards.
Last year, PNGOC presented to the federations the justification committee’s new process, timelines and requirements at the Samoa Pacific Games evaluation workshop and their one-on-one meetings with PNGOC.
“We have set performance standards and have communicated these to the federations for all the Games Team PNG will be participating in,” PNGOC secretary-general Auvita Rapilla said.
“All the federations are encouraged to meet and comply with the justification committee’s requirements for endorsement of their sport, officials and athletes.
“The new timelines have been shared with the sports and it is important for all the federations to fully understand the requirements and comply to avoid their sport, officials and athletes being dropped from Team PNG.”
“Our PNGOC staff are available to guide and assist the federations that need assistance to complete the requirements of the justification committee.”
