THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee has thanked the public for buying Trukai Fun Run t-shirts despite not holding the actual annual event this year.
“We did appeal to the public in relation to no Fun Run,” committee president Sir John Dawanincura said.
“It’s difficult to sell t-shirts without an event, but it all happened.
“Thank you to everyone who bought the t-shirts.” The sale of t-shirt is an essential part of the Fun Run programme which is aimed at raising funds for Team PNG to compete on the international stage, including the Pacific and Commonwealth Games.
Presented to the committee yesterday, K344,000 was raised by Trukai over the last six month.
“The activities that we have done over the months has raised a large amount of money, all of which we pass to the committee,” Trukai Industries Limited chief executive Alan Preston said.
“Although we didn’t have the programme this year due to the Coronavirus, the Fun Run has been a success over the last 20 years.
“But we will run 21 Fun Runs around the country next year and try to sell more t-shirts to raise more funds.”
Committee president Sir John Dawanincura praised Trukai for the successful sale of Fun Run t-shirts.
“I’d like to thank (committee secretary-general) Auvita Rapilla, our staff and Trukai for persisting with the sale of t-shirts,” he said.
The funds will go towards supporting Team PNG to the July 27-Aug 8 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
