THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League-sanctioned national club championship in Lae has been deferred to Nov 28-30.
League competition manager Toksy Nema said the Southern, Mamose, Highlands and New Guinea Islands (NGI) confederations had been advised of deferral.
The said the initial dates of Nov 14-16 were scrapped due to Kumuls-Great Britain and Orchids-England tests this weekend.
“This was the decision of league chairman Sandis Tsaka and chief executive Reatau Rau,” Nema said.
Nema has also advised Lae Rugby League administrator Adrian Chow of the deferral. The tournament will feature the champions of each confederation.
Meanwhile, the date and venue for the Southern Confederate Club Championship final between Brothers and Koki Eels were yet to be confirmed by director Gwaibo Mairi.
Port Moresby Rugby Football League champions Brothers appear to have the edge over the Eels.
Brothers president Steven Johns has called on Mairi to monitor the involvement of Digicel Cup players and others joining the finalists.
Steven said it was unfair that “we are filling our original club players while other teams are going on a recruitment drive which is uncalled for”.
Tsaka said in a statement last month that teams were allowed only one Digicel Cup, SP Hunters or PNG Kumuls player, provided they were “registered with their respective leagues”.
