PNG Rugby Football League is expected to hold its annual general meeting at the end of next month.
The AGM, which will be held in Lae on Nov 30, should see the appointment of a proper PNGRFL board to oversee the running of the rugby league’s affairs in PNG.
PNGRFL interim board chairman John Numapo said in an e-mail yesterday those intending to stand for the national elections next year would not be eligible to contest any of the executives positions in the PNGRFL board.
He said it would also apply to the leagues.
“The PNGRFL constitution was very clear on that,” he said.
He stressed that a public notice would be placed in the daily papers giving the leagues adequate time to prepare themselves for the AGM.
“The criteria for the affiliation are clearly stated in the PNGRFL constitution and those wanting to affiliate must fully comply with those criteria to be eligible to affiliate and participate in the AGM.
“Leagues who do not fulfill these criteria will be excluded,” Numapo said.
Numapo said the election of the board members at the AGM would be supervised by the PNG Electoral Commission as directed by the court.
However, Numapo did not indicate whether those leagues who were affiliated in the year the PNGRFL went into a court battle had the mandate to vote or have a say.
