THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) is set to hold a consultative meeting with representatives of all rugby league associations and stakeholders of five provinces, including the National Capital District (NCD), in the Southern Confederation at Boera village, Central, today. PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka said in a statement that consultations would be around the establishment of provincial boards, confederation boards and the new governance and management framework for the sport’s national governing body under the ‘New Ireland Model’ reforms. “The PNGRFL board and management will meet with the presidents of 26 affiliate members and women’s and school’s associations who have expressed interest in the confederation, stakeholder representatives from provincial governments, provincial franchises, provincial police commanders, provincial business councils, provincial health authorities and provincial sports councils of the five provinces,” he said. “Unfortunately, no rugby league association in Gulf sent expressions of interest when called for in February this year nor did they make contact with the PNGRFL headquarters.” Tsaka said the 26 leagues from all five provinces were Cloudy Bay, Buria, Vanapa, Rigo Coast, Miamata, Koiari, Keleone, Kairuku, Goilala, Amazon Bay, Hiri-West (Central), Dibili, Wawi, Balimo, Kamusie, Fly Delta, Naeminaer, Kiunga, Tabubil, Daru (Western), Port Moresby Suburban, Port Moresby Rugby Football League, Motu-Koita, Moresby South (NCD), Popondetta (Northern) and Alotau (Milne Bay). “It is important to note that under the ‘New Ireland Model’ governance and management framework, the provincial and confederate boards are empowered with delegated powers and responsibilities by PNGRFL to manage all rugby league programmes within their respective jurisdictions consistent with the 2021 PNGRFL calendar,” he said.  “As such, it is imperative that all representatives and stakeholders of the sport in the confederation attend this consultative meeting to effectively work with PNGRFL to develop the game in their areas.” The meeting starts at 9am at Koke Hanua in Boera.
