THE PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF) bounced back in extra time to claim a grand final ticket following their 52-50 victory over National Fisheries Authority in the Public Servants Netball Association premier division on Saturday.
Both teams drew 37 all after the 40th minute and forced the match into extra minutes, with last year’s runners-up PNGSF powering their way through to book another showdown with Bank of PNG next weekend.
PNGSF captain Raka Nope said, “it was an elimination match for us at this point, we knew we had to work extra harder. Some of us have experience while some are just starting to learn in this game.
“We came up with our game plan to just stay with our pace, that is low pace, to not tire them out and we pulled through. Unfortunately, we drew in the fulltime and then the extra minutes so had to play an extra to finally get the win.”
Nope said their opponents NFA were a better side who gave a good run, extending the game to almost an hour in the premier division semifinal at the Rita Flynn Courts.
“The girls were exhausted from this match and nervous at the same time because our opponents were also tough on the court but having in faith in them, we had to push through to get the win.”
Meanwhile, in the earlier semifinals fixtures, PomGen defeated Dept. of Labor and Industrial Relations 15-10 in division one.
Forestry’s team one beat NFA 19-12 in division two. Education secured the final spot in division four defeating NCDC 16-12 while PNGSF-2 grabbed the last spot off Censorship following a 16-9 win in division six.
Central Province Transport Authority (CPTA) made a huge statement against Dept. of Foreign Affairs (II) with a 20-5 win in division seven.
