MORE than 200 women will take part in a business expo to be held in Port Moresby early next month, according to PNG Women in Business (PNGWIB).

President Janet Sape said women-owned businesses and women’s groups have already registered to take part and showcase their products and services during the 10-day PNG Digicel Women in Business expo.

She said the expo organised by PNGWIB would coincide with 2015 Pacific Games and was expected to draw thousands of city residents as well as the 5,000 visiting athletes and officials from participating island nations.

She said businesses such as manufacturers of local beauty products, suppliers of mobile kitchens, a painter and a construction and civil engineering company would take part.

Sape said the event would be opened by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on July 2nd at Constitutional Park.

She said O’Neill’s support portrayed the Government’s commitment to expose and raise profile of PNG women entrepreneurs in small to medium enterprise (SME) as well as those in informal sector.

“This support contributes towards the economic empowerment of our women. It also recognises women’s potential in participating in the economic development of our country and supports the goals and objectives of self-reliance and elevating poverty in our communities.”

Meanwhile, MPs from Highlands and Mamose have indicated they would support with traditional dancing groups from their respective provinces to take part in the event.
