THE Papua New Guinea Teachers Association Momase regional secretary Mathew Pobaya is to become the commissioner of operations at the headquarters in Port Moresby.
Pobaya is the first national to replace Michael Pearson to take care of all the operations of teachers’ salaries and entitlements in  the country.

At a farewell hosted by Omili staff, Pobaya, who served 32 years in Morobe, urged the staff to have a vision for what they wanted to achieve in their careers and endeavours.
“Being are teacher, it means you are there to serve, regardless of the situation and conditions. We swore to serve, especially to eradicate illiteracy,” Pobaya said.
Under his leadership as the treasurer of Omili, he managed to make K450,000 which will be used to build a teacher’s house next year.

“His achievements are the answer to some of the overdue issues surrounding teachers throughout the country.
“Pobaya is a walking testimony of someone who advocates in ‘believing in thyself, struggling to learn from mistakes and moving ahead to take on the challenges’.”
Pobaya graduated from Gaulim teachers college, East New Britain, in 1979 and spent all his years in Morobe, being at Boana, Manga, Menyamya, Lagai, Kabwum and then Siassi.
