EXPERIENCED campaigners Solomon Pokari and Pipi Kilori have been named in the Gulf Isou initial pre-season squad.
The former Port Moresby Vipers playmaker is a welcomed boost for the debuting franchise along with winger Kilori.
Kilori is a former Gulf Isapea wing and played in the PRL and other city leagues last season.
The Isou’s 51-man train-on squad will be trimmed down to a final 25 next month.
Isou team manager Bosco Kose said most of the players were from the Wests Club in the Port Moresby Rugby League, the Teikariko and Kerema leagues.
“Some players are also from rugby union, AFL and touch football and they have been picked for the trial on March 3,” Kose said.
Isou coach Colin Geno, who is coaching the national Under-23 nines team to the Commonwealth Championships, will be back in time for the trials.
“After the trials we will have a fair idea of which players will make up the team for the Digicel Cup but we are anticipating good competition among the squad,” Kose added.
He said 25 players from the Gulf Isou 9s tournament in Kerema two weeks ago were included giving the province’s taleent to impress.
