PAPUA New Guinea international Ishmael Pole has joined Gulf Komara for the upcoming National Soccer League season.
The goalkeeper told The National yesterday that he would aim to regain his form this year.
Pole said his long-term goal is to make a comeback to the national side, the Kapuls, for the Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands next year.
Pole played for Port Moresby Strikers last season after leaving his beloved Hekari United at the end of the 2020 campaign.
The Southern Highlands native, from Kagua, was with Hekari for eight years before moving to Strikers.
“I had a great season with Strikers after leaving Hekari for the first time in my career,” Pole said.
“We (Strikers) started well, but unfortunately, my season was ruined through injury and I didn’t play many games as expected.
“I would like to thank the Strikers for letting me be part of their side last year.
“I was honored to play alongside some young talents in the team.
“Unfortunately, I had to move to Komara and I believe that I’ve made a good choice as it would also help my career.”
Pole said he would learn a lot from Komara coach and former national goalkeeper David Aua.
“Obviously, he (Aua) is one of the reasons why I moved,” he said of the former Sobou and University No.1.
“I would like to learn a lot from him and develop further as a goalkeeper.
“My aim is to get back to the Kapuls.
“I am confident that David is someone I can get advice from to improve.”
