Police and CS not doing enough

Letters

OFFICERS from the two disciplined forces, Royal PNG Constabulary (police) and Correctional Services (CS), need to review their conduct and performance to instill public confidence.
Two most serious issues that draws ire, anger and frustration every time from the public is inconsistency by police in not filing court documents on time and the news of prevalent prison break taking place in CS establishments around the country.
As a regular reader to our two daily newspapers, I never read a story about a foreign court in Australia, United States, England or a nearby Pacific island country releasing prisoners, convicts or criminals as a result of the non-provision of police files.
This is a big mockery to our police force and our court system.
What’s the point in recruiting people for the police force and having our Government, through our taxes, paying them salaries and other entitlements every fortnight?
Where is justice and fairness in an instance where officers, not getting their job done, are still getting paid by the Government?
Does something like this happen in nearby Pacific island nations and other developed countries around the world?
The same goes for prison breaks around the country.
What’s the point in recruiting people to join our country’s corrective institution service? lf they were recruited to take up guard post, then why is there news of prison breaks every time?
I have not read news of a country encountering prison breaks as often as what is happening here in PNG.
Police and the CS top brass need to come down hard on complacent and dishonest officers. Thousands of university graduates and Grade 12 school-leavers want to join these disciplined forces.
Get rid of the bad apples and let fresh ones serve.
