A POLICEMAN’S daughter and pirate grandson were arrested and charged with various criminal offences in Madang, acting commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang says.
“The mother (policeman’s daughter) had been harbouring her son who had been involved in a series of criminal offences on land and sea,” Rubiang said.
The grandson had previous cases and was out on K1,000 National Court bail last Dec 11 and was arrested again on Saturday.
Acting Supt Rubiang said the grandson was one of the suspects in a piracy incident on Wednesday in which a boat skipper was wounded by a shot from a homemade gun and others were robbed.
“The pirates robbed everything from the boat passengers who were on their way to Saidor from Madang,” he said.
“One of the passengers was a foreigner, an employee of the Summer Institute of Linguist in Raicoast’s Bongu.
“The wounded skipper and the passengers were not able to proceed with their journey to Saidor and returned to Madang.
“Policemen were deployed to look for the pirates on Thursday afternoon but could not complete their job because of heavy rain.
“The policemen even got lost in the sea for half an hour before retuning at night.”
However, Supt Rubiang said the policemen did not give up and continued their search and arrested one of the grandson’s accomplices on Friday.
