Police arrest ten men

POLICE have arrested 10 men they believe were involved in criminal activities in Wasu, Tewai-Siassi in Morobe.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said the 10 were detained at the Wasu police station.
Police are investigating cases of murder, attempted murder, arson and damaging properties in the area.
Problems began last month when some students of Wasu Secondary School allegedly consumed homebrew which led to the death of a student and the inuring of another. Their relatives burnt homes and properties in retaliation.
The prime suspect in the murder case at Belombiwi village on Oct 12 has gone into hiding with five others.
N’Drasal said all were known to police.
“Information of their whereabouts are not confirmed but police are confident of arresting them soon,” N’Drasal said.
Seven of those in custody are from Belombiwi village.
The 24-year-old grade nine student who died was from Karangan village.
Belombiwi and Karangan villagers attacked Neng villagers, burned down houses and destroyed properties.
Wasu local level government ward 13 councillor Toli Figao said more than 40 houses were burnt and properties stolen.
Meanwhile investigations are going on and the situation at Wasu has been brought under control after a police squad was sent to the district.
