POLICE have handed over investigation on the foreign-owned black ship intercepted by a PNG Navy ship on Aug 22 north of Kavieng in New Ireland to the National Fisheries Authority (NFA).
Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Operations Donald Yamasombi said they were awaiting the outcome of the NFA investigation.
The vessel was escorted to Kavieng Harbour from an area called Morgado Square 40 miles north of Kavieng by the HMPNGS Moresby after a tip-off that it had been involved in drug trafficking.
The vessel was alleged to have transferred 1,900kg of cocaine worth K1.47bil to an Australian fishing vessel early last month off the New South Wales coast.
