Police blame speed for accidents

POLICE have blamed speed for the reported 13 road accidents in Port Moresby over the Easter weekend.
Twelve were regarded as minor accidents and one major one in which a stolen vehicle crashed into another vehicle at 8-Mile outside Port Moresby and injured the driver, National Capital District police traffic officer in-charge Inspector Joseph Salle said.
“All these happened within the four days’ public holiday in the city because of the careless drivers on the road nowadays,” he said.
He said only one arrest was made — at Gerehu — in connection with road accidents.
The road accident at 8-Mile happened when criminal gang
members held up a Black Swan Security vehicle travelling to Malolo Estate and crashed into another vehicle on the road and injured the driver, Salle said. “The accidents happened throughout the city and not just in one place because these days many drivers are careless, risking their lives as well as other people’s.”
