MILNE Bay police have bought a boat to assist in their sea patrols.

Provincial police commander Joseph Morehari said sea patrols were vital in their operations in Milne Bay.

“Milne Bay is a maritime province and our police operations are focused along the coastlines and the islands,” he said.

The police department purchased the boat especially for operations in Milne Bay.

“We have a boat in Port Moresby bought by the police department,” he said.

Morehari said the boat would boost sea patrols and deal with piracy cases and disasters in the waters of the maritime  province.

Morehari said the boat could carry 20 passengers and help ferry locals with their cargo to Alotau.
