POLICE have busted a “firearms factory” following a shoot-out with six robbers in Banana Camp and Woo Creek settlements in West New Britain on Saturday.
“A total of six gun shots were fired in our clash with the robbers but no one was injured,” commander Supt Januaryuse Vosivai said.
“In a follow-up operation, we seized homemade guns and later uncovered the factory.”
He said the armed gang had robbed ENE Trading in Bialla Town between 8am and 9am, and fled with a substantial amount of cash, mobile phones, flex cards and cigarettes.
“The string of armed robberies and burglaries in Biala are committed by people living in settlements in town,” he said.
“After the shoot-out, we raided a house in Matilu village and seized homemade guns.
“We also found machines and utensils used for making homemade guns.” Supt Vosivai said police were intensifying the hunt for the six robbers on the run.
