Police chief commends authority for support

LAE police have commended the Lae City Authority’s (LCA) recruitment of police reservists as a timely initiative that had helped law enforcement in the Morobe capital.
Lae Met Supt Chris Kunyanban said reservists had played an important role in providing security and crowd control during the Morobe Show last year.
Kunyanban said Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) did not have adequate manpower to attend to all its responsibilities effectively and the use of reservists was a vital component of their operations.
He said that increasing police numbers in the country would require a large amount of investment and by the Government as this would involve training them and housing them.
Kunyanban added that the LCA and the provincial government recognised the need for more police presence and this support would prove valuable to police efforts.
He said the LCA reservist programme was also producing competent personnel who could be relied on to carry out roles in the community.
Kunyanban also warned the reservists not to be involved in unethical behaviour or activities that were against police code of conduct and any directives from the command or from RPNGC headquarters.
He said any reservist who failed to follow these rules and directives would be dismissed.
Kunyanban said this during the Met Supt’s parade at Bumbu Police Barracks on Monday.
He urged regular police personnel in Lae Metro to lead by example.
