Police chiefs plan election security

POLICE chiefs from throughout the country are in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, for the 2012 election planning conference.
Internal Security Minister Mark Maipakai would launch the conference today.
Those in attendance included acting Commissioner of Police Anthony Wagambie, acting Deputy Commissioner operations Fred Yakasa, Deputy Commissioner administration Tom Kulunga and all assistant commissioners, provincial police commanders and directors from the national police headquarters in Konedobu.
The conference would focus on planning strategies and develop the best security operational plan for the general elections next year. It would end on Friday.
Wagambie said the conference would also provide police the opportunity to develop its proposed elections budget for presentation to the national government for funding.
Addressing the conference also would be Education Minister James Marape, who is also chair of the Hela Transitional Authority.
The minister would be expected to provide an update on the progress of the establishment of the Hela authority.
Jiwaka Transitional Authority chairman Philip Kapal would also give a presentation on Friday.
The PNG Defence Force would also be represented.
Western Highlands Governor Tom Olga would officiate at the closing.
