LAE police are aware of the death of a man who collapsed and died along Mangola St on Saturday, Lae Met Supt Chief Insp Kunyanban says.
He confirmed that there had been a report of a death at the location but said relatives had informed police that the deceased had been in poor health.
“Yes, there was a report of a suspicious death but police were informed by relatives that the deceased was a sick person,” he said.
“I have instructed my CID officers to properly register this case.”
The deceased was alleged to have been an employee of a shipping company and was walking along Mangola St when he collapsed and died.
Meanwhile, Chief Insp Kunyanban also advised shops to continue to trade as police were on alert for any issues including looting.
“Let me remind the opportunists that try to loot shops to know that there will be consequences for them and their families,” he said.
Kunyanban further added the ban on trading, transporting and selling of betel nuts was still in place.
