LAE police confiscated a pistol from local artist Honlly Isaac (Jokema) last Friday following complaints from Butibam villagers.
China Town police station commander James Luan said police were investigating its registration.
Luan said the gun was licensed for security purposes but had expired in May.
“China Town police, with the help of the Lae mobile squad, were alerted by the villagers after they heard  gun shots.
“Isaac was having few beers with his friends at Butibam village at the time,” Luan said.
