POLICE detectives completed a week-long training workshop aimed at sharpening and maximising their investigative skills on sexual offences, according to National Capital District (NCD)/Central commander and Asst Comm of Police (ACP) Anthony Wagambie Jr.
Closing the workshop on Friday, ACP Wagambie said such courses would reinvigorate the abilities and performance of detectives. “Many of the participants are experienced investigators but such courses would help enhance their skills,” he said.
The training covered different types of sexual offences and the law, proper interview processes, preparation of good court briefs and the proper application of the laws.
The course participants were selected from the Waigani Station of Excellence, Boroko and Hohola police stations and the police headquarters. They represented the public safety unit, criminal investigations and the family and sexual violence units.
ACP Wagambie thanked the Australian Federal Police and the Royal PNG Constabulary course facilitators for completing the programme.
