Police: Fights need to be addressed

THE tribal fight in Dei, Western Highlands, that has claimed 40 lives needs to be addressed to restore peace and normalcy, say police.
Deputy assist comm of police Eastern End Joseph Tondop said he would be assisting ACP Nema Mondia in setting up a team made up of church and community leaders to help members of the Rolgoka and the Kimka tribes.
He said the fight had been going on for two years.
Tondop said churches in the province would be called in to help.
“I will be discussing with Western Highlands PPC Jacob Kamiak, why the fighting took place and when it started and how lives and properties were being affected,” he said.
He said Dei supported the economy through coffee production.
Tondop said his duty was to initiate a peace process.
“This has been going on for a very long time and we have to do something.”
Tondop said this issue could be dealt with by an independent body together with the church.
“Someone created it and we have to join hands to stop it.”
Tondop said an initiative should be taken to calm the entire situation so people can be restored with their normal lives. “We have to do something to help our people.”

  • Land owning is causing alot of problems and has caused so many lives in PNG and seems to be NEVER ENDING.
My suggestion is that the government may become the landowner and people will shut up and do the right thing.
