LAE Committal Court senior Magistrate Pious Tapil, on Monday, gave police four months to have their prosecution files on a murder case ready for hearing.
He then adjourned the case to April 18 and remanded Ben Hefo, 59, from Siuko village in Finschhafen and wife Maura Ben, 52, from Bulolo’s Buang in Morobe, in Buimo Prison.
Magistrate Tapil said this was a serious case and the police needed enough time to complete investigations and files.
The couple are charged with killing a man between 2.30pm and 3pm on Dec 18 in Lae’s Seven Block in Awagasi following an argument.
The couple had an argument with the deceased son (Rovi Ben).
The father was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and Maura insulted him. The father then allegedly destroyed a table in the market belonging to Maura.
A fight broke when Ben allegedly removed an iron umbrella stand and hit the deceased under his armpit. The deceased was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Ben and Maura then surrendered to the police.
