POLICE in the Telefomin, West Sepik, have identified suspects involved in the killing of two boys in September.
Telefomin police station commander Inspt Praise Kaiyus confirmed that police in Oksapmin had obtained new information on the suspects who were responsible for killing the two boys and injuring several others.
He said that the suspects were part of a religious group that was operating in Oksapmin.
“We have gotten this new information from sources that have come out of this group,” he said.
“These sources have identified those involved in the killing, however, police in Oksapmin are not able to make any arrests as yet.”
Kaiyus said that the reason the suspects could not be arrested was because the religious group was located in the forests of Oksapmin far from the nearest station.
He said that a team of policemen would be airlifted to the group’s location. The team comprises members of Oksapmin police station and five policemen sent up from Western province. “They (the men) are currently stationed in Oksapmin and are awaiting to be airlifted by helicopter,” he said. Telefomin MP Solan Mirisim was in the district over the weekend to make the airlift arrangements.
