THE suspects who allegedly tortured an old woman in East New Britain will soon be arrested, says Divisional Commander for New Guinea Islands Assist Comm Perou N’dranou.
N’dranou said yesterday that the identities of the suspects and their whereabouts were known and they would be arrested as soon as the victim and her family gave their statements.
The alleged incident occurred in February at Vunaiting ward in Ramalmal area of Gazelle’s Reimber-Livuan local level government.
N’dranou said the perpetrators accused the victim of causing the death of another person through sorcery.
He said the relatives of the deceased tortured the old woman and the matter was reported to Rabaul police who rescued her and brought her to Nonga Base Hospital.
“The victim is slowly recovering but she is still traumatised so we will wait for her to recover and when she is ready and feels safe, she will give us information,” said N’dranou.
“I condemn such practise and will make sure these perpetrators are arrested and charged accordingly.”
