POLICE have spoken to at least 10 people who may know something about the death of a schoolgirl inside the Igam Military Barracks in Lae, Northern region assistant commissioner of police Peter Guinness says.
He said police were examining “circumstantial evidence” surrounding the death of Jacklyn Kombugko.
Kombugko, 20, from Guo village in Kundiawa, Chimbu, was killed and her body buried in a shallow grave inside the Igam Barracks.
The barracks commandant Col Carl Wrakonei described the discovery of her corpse as a “security breach” last week.
Guinness said the Lae Criminal Investigation Detectives were following on strong leads.
“So far detectives have spoken to 10 people who may have some information about the case,” he said.
“Police detectives will rely heavily on circumstantial evidence and post-mortem report.
“Police are looking at finding out the people whom she last spoke to and the people she was last seen with. They are subjects of interest.”
Guinness said the case was sensitive and of public interest and police would ensure all leads were investigated thoroughly.
Wrakonei urged relatives of the deceased not to threaten soldiers.
