POLICE have warned female students to take extra precaution while attneding end-of-year school parties because of the high incidence of rape.
National Capital District and Central divisional commander Fred Sheekiot said: “While we are looking forward to the Christmas season, I would like to inform the public of the increasing rape cases of minor females between the ages of nine and 14.”
He did not reveal the number of reports received by police but warned parents to be responsible for the movement of their children.
He urged schools to send students home early to avoid rushing in buses and risk being attacked by criminal elements.
Sheekiot said police were there to protect lives and properties but there was no guarantee they would be able to look after everyone. He said currently, one police officer was responsible for looking after 300 people.
Sheekiot said the lack of resources such as vehicles and communication equipment made police work more difficult.
Meanwhile, he said police would also crack down on people producing and selling pirated music.
A team of police officers and representative of music studios will be conducting raids on companies and individuals suspected of pirating music.
He said the production of boom boxes, CDs, cassettes and flash drives had contributed to piracy and the counterfeiting of music.
